Website privacy notice

Visitors whose connection Cloudflare identifies as the United States or a Canadian province outside Quebec do not get a first-visit cookie banner. This site uses a limited Google Analytics setup. It runs by default in the notice-and-opt-out regions described below, waits for Accept in the listed opt-in regions, and stays off when Cloudflare identifies the request as mainland China. It does not send your name, email address, cards, crib, cut card, or running game score.

What this notice covers

This notice covers the pages served at www.nobscribbage.com. The two apps described here are separate products with separate policies. Nobs has its own privacy policy, and so does Muggins.

Where the site asks first

Before a measurable page decides whether to load Google Analytics, a same-site Cloudflare endpoint selects one of three modes from the request's country and, for Canadian visits, province code. The browser receives only opt-in, default, or off, not the country or province. The raw location is not saved as your choice or sent as an analytics event.

  • The site asks you to choose Accept or No thanks before Google loads when Cloudflare identifies the request as the European Economic Area or its covered outermost regions, Svalbard and Jan Mayen, the United Kingdom or Crown Dependencies, Gibraltar, Switzerland, Brazil, Türkiye, or Quebec. It also asks when the location check is missing, unclear, or unavailable.
  • When Cloudflare identifies another region, including the United States and Canada outside Quebec, the limited setup can run by default until you turn it off.
  • When Cloudflare identifies mainland China, Google Analytics stays unavailable because a cookie choice alone does not address the separate transfer requirements there.

A choice made under this notice is saved in this browser under nobs.analytics-consent.v1 with the decision time, notice version, and coarse regional mode. Older choices remain respected even if their earlier local record does not contain those details. No local choice record is sent as an analytics event. The site does not save an automatic regional allowance, so a later visit from an opt-in region can still ask first. Choosing No thanks does not change how the site, calculator, or game works.

A Global Privacy Control signal or a Do Not Track signal counts as No thanks. Google Analytics never loads on app-policy, community-standards, support, account-deletion, website-privacy, reporting, or admin pages, even if you allowed it elsewhere.

If the browser blocks local storage, an explicit choice applies only to the current page. A later page uses the regional rule again.

Cloudflare derives location from the connection's IP address. That is an estimate: a VPN, proxy, mobile network, or geolocation error can select the wrong regional mode.

What analytics records

When analytics runs, Nobs explicitly sends these six site events and only the listed details:

  • page_view: the page title and this site's canonical path, plus the referring site's origin. The only query parameters kept are the five standard campaign labels (utm_source through utm_term), which say which search engine, assistant, or campaign linked here. Other query strings, fragments, arbitrary not-found paths, friend-invite codes, and referrer paths are not sent.
  • app_click: whether the link was for Nobs or Muggins, whether it was an inline, footer, store-badge, QR-link, or QR-open action, and the link's campaign label, which names the part of this site the link sits on (for example web-play).
  • calculator_run: hand or crib mode and the calculated total, from 0 through 29. The five selected cards are not sent.
  • game_start: the chosen opponent identifier, which is pip, tessa, or onyx.
  • game_over: the opponent identifier, win or loss, no skunk, skunk, or double skunk, and the number of hands dealt.
  • game_abandon: the opponent identifier and hands dealt when someone deliberately returns to opponent selection during a game. A closed tab does not send this event.

Google Analytics can also create its standard automatically collected first_visit, session_start, and user_engagement events. These describe the first measured visit from a browser, the start of a measured session, and active engagement time. Nobs does not add account or card details to them.

The Google tag also processes language, high-level browser and device categories, a random browser identifier, session timing, and the IP address used at collection. Google uses the IP address to derive geography, then discards it before logging analytics data. The property does not collect granular fields such as city, screen resolution, device brand or model, or minor browser and operating-system versions. We do not provide a user ID, name, email address, or advertising identifier.

Advertising storage, advertising personalization, advertising user data, and Google Signals are disabled. The site has no advertising tag or ad network.

Google processes these analytics records for us and may process them in the United States and other countries where it operates. Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services and its business data safeguards.

Cookies, local settings, and retention

When analytics runs, Google Analytics may set _ga and a property cookie beginning with _ga_. This site configures those cookies to expire 60 days after they are created and does not renew that expiry on later visits. The analytics property's user-level and event-level data retention setting is 14 months. Resetting user-data retention on new activity is disabled, so return visits do not keep extending that period. Standard aggregated Google Analytics reports can remain available after that period.

The browser game keeps the sound and opponent-speed settings on your device. The analytics choice is also kept on your device. These local settings are not sent as analytics events.

Delivery and security records

Cloudflare delivers and protects this site. In doing that, Cloudflare can process the IP address, requested URL, request headers, time, and response status. We do not combine Cloudflare's delivery and security records with the Google Analytics events above.

Change or revoke your choice

Use Privacy choices in the footer on any page. Choosing No thanks stops future analytics collection, removes the Google tag from the page, and clears the Google Analytics cookies this site can read. It does not delete records already received by Google. You can choose Accept later. A browser privacy signal continues to keep analytics off.
